My wife and I first met Dana Fuchs  many years ago when she was starring in the off-Broadway musical hit, "Love, Janis," about Janis Joplin. Not only were we thrilled with the play, but both of us were thunderstruck by Dana's incredible vocals; her range was simply astounding, complemented by a mesmerizing stage presence. We have been fans of Dana ever since that extraordinary encounter decades and decades ago.

Dana Fuchs's latest release, titled "Live In Denmark," is on the prestigious RUF label. This celebrated blues-rock vocalist and songwriter delivered raw, powerful performances recorded with no overdubs or post-production trickery—just vocals, guitar, bass, and drums. It was an unforgettable night at Godset in Kolding, Denmark, in October 2025, when the magic happened.

Let's talk a bit with Dana Fuchs about the new album, "Live In Denmark."

Dana Fuchs says, “Last fall, I went to Denmark for a mini tour, and my label Ruf Records & my manager decided we should record a live album there. My previous record, Borrowed Time, was under-served because of the pandemic, and this felt like a chance to make things right. But here’s the thing, we had ONE night to capture it. No safety net, no second chances, no fixing anything in post. Just my voice, guitar, bass, and drums, and a short time to mix. I was skeptical, to say the least.”

“When I finally sat down and listened to what we’d captured, I wept. I remember thinking, ‘damn, I wish so many people who have never heard me before could hear this’ and I never feel that way about my own work. To be honest, it’s been a brutal couple of years in many ways, but these hard times have revealed something essential to me: I need to get back to doing what I was born to do, and that is to make music and perform.” – DF

“This album Live in Denmark is raw, honest, and alive in ways I didn’t think were possible to capture. It’s me at my most vulnerable and most powerful, all at once. Thanks for sticking with me through everything. I cannot wait to get back out there starting in Germany this spring and share this music with all of you again.” – DF

“Curtain Close” was inspired by a dear friend, Colin Chase, who the album is dedicated to. He was riding his motorcycle after his mom’s birthday dinner in the rain, just blocks away from the restaurant. He had a terrible accident, immediately went into a coma, and less than a week later, they took him off life support. He was a wonderful guy. Colin was somebody who gave his heart to everybody. I had a songwriting session with Jon the next day. I just kept seeing Colin’s image and the lyrics flowed out of me"

"Live in Denmark" is a wonderfully crafted live album in every way, capturing the raw energy and spontaneity of the performances. Unbelievably real; you can feel the energy between the crowd and the band, capturing their camaraderie, each member's spontaneity, powerful emotions, enormous passion, and tremendous honesty, authenticity, and conviction. Every song is a standout and unique, a real tribute to gifted musicians, wonderful storytellers, and an enviable songwriting prowess. One listen to the reinvention of The Stones' "Sympathy for the Devil," and you know you are in for one wild ride , complete with hair-raising banshee howls and searing instrumentation from the band—think Janis Joplin meets The Glimmer Twins—a wonderfully fresh take on a classic rock anthem that is simply incendiary. https://youtu.be/DVjvHS3K7nQ?si=JY8EzUbs0AiKupR6

"Live in Denmark" captures a very special moment in time, filled with electrifying performances. Capturing the shared energy between the stage and the seats, this terrific live album gives music fans everywhere a front-row view and offers so much.  With a captivating, entrancing, bewitching vocalist who leaves audiences yearning for more, and a talented ensemble of seasoned musicians known for exhilarating performances, Dana Fuchs and "Live In Denmark" is a bold, daring, and uncompromising experience. Pick this one up right away! I'll be waiting for you in the first row!!
