For the fans out there who were thrilled and energized by the premier release , " Blues In The Barn : Volume 1" , along comes another exciting set of classic and hidden gems covered by musicians who certainly live and breathe " the Blues" - "Blues In The Barn : Volume 2 " . Mikey Junior - that Philadelphia-based harp player and vocalist who has become well respected with a dedicated following for his jaw-dropping harmonica skills and his uncanny knowledge of the blues . He is an old soul with that contemporary glint sparking in his eyes .
Mikey and his bandmates don't do the same old thing time after time . Since Mikey's blues knowledge is so extraordinary , and so vast , he is able to pull together hidden gems that will surprise and excite the listeners - case in point - Covering " Kill Ice Cream Man" by the Atlanta-based band "the Shadows" ( Known best for their longtime residence at "Blind Willies " , a popular blues club in Atlanta, the Shadows released several albums during the 90's before the untimely death of singer/guitarist Mike Lorenz) - Another wide-ranging session of blues textures and styles that see this amazingly accomplished band perform solidly on Stevie Ray Vaughn's " Dirty Pool" ; Junior Parker's " "Mystery Train" ; "Evening" recorded by guitar great T-Bone Walker in 1945 ; as well as tearing into old school sides from Muddy , Little Walter , Junior Wells and Robert Johnson . The guitar instrumental , "Rooster Strut" , written by Mikey and Matt Daniels , is first-rate.Listening to Matt Daniels and Filthy Rich on this outstanding instrumental is a master class in finger-plucking. It isn't enough to just play the blues . These multi-talented veterans have the spirit and the passion to infuse every track with their own distinct humanity - afterall , genuine blues music isn't learned - it's felt!
Mikey Junior , Filthy Rich ( Richard MacPherson )Matt Daniels , Jimmy Pritchard , Scott Stump , and Andy Kravitz are truly genuine blues musicians . Through their expert musicianship the audience can feel the honesty and truth , the deep feelings that run through the blues . These East Coast journeymen continue the musical traditions of the past while advancing them forward into the present day .
The success of the blues stems from its adaptability, honesty, and universality . This is why you will see blues musicians from all across the globe - Norway , Germany , China , Argentina , India, the Middle East - and even from Tibet!
Mikey Junior certainly knows how to rework material in a way that speaks to him personally , drawing from his own experiences , and layering every song with a distinctly inventive bent .
