Unknowingly and unintentionally, the first draft shared a chord progression and melody similarity with Miley Cirus' "Flowers". Leanne says, "The song wrote itself in ten minutes". The title "Drinking Stars" came from a friend's old recipe book of champagne cocktails. Though the song is said to have a double entendre,Leanne will not divulge that particular insight,instead letting each listener come to their own unique interpretation.
